A physically imposing defender, Catanese does not consistently play to his size or speed numbers. Makes most of his plays in the box, which reduces his possibilities at the next level to either strong safety or outside linebacker.

Biography:

Two-year starter who began his career in junior college. All-Conference selection after his senior and junior campaigns when he posted 59/2/1 and 107/1/4.

Pos:

King-sized defensive back with great physical skills. Hard-hitting run defender who quickly comes up the field and goes for the knockout blow. Effectively diagnoses the action, defeats blocks and gets to the ball carrier.

Neg:

Possesses marginal ball skills, lateral speed and footwork in reverse. Inefficient and takes incorrect angles to the action. Not a sure-handed tackler.

2005-He earned the Gail Scott Most Improved Defensive Player Award and honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors. Finishing the season with 107 tackles, he came in 4th in the Pac-10 for total tackles and 5th for tackles per game. He also ranked nationally within the top 50, had a career high of 13 tackles in consecutive games, and was recognized as a Hard Hat Player for his hard work in ASU's winter strength and conditioning program. 2004-Graduated from Shasta College in Redding,California and rated the 66 best junior college player in the nation by Scout.com.
